Our
beautiful 800 year old restored olive mill is tucked away in a secluded
and peaceful location amongst the ancient olive groves of rural
Axarquia.
This
small and unspoilt area of Andalucia
- to the north and east of Malaga - is still a well kept secret
and has retained it's traditional rural character. Untouched (as
yet!) by tourism, it remains predominantly agricultural. Bordered
to the north and east by the rugged mountains of the high Sierras,
and to the south by the Mediterranean coast, it is an area of outstanding
natural beauty.
The
rolling hillsides are covered with a patchwork of olive and almond
trees on the higher ground, and fruit, mainly peaches, grapes, oranges,
lemons and avocados on the lower slopes. Peaceful river valleys
wind their way down to the sea, and all around the dramatic mountains
form a panoramic backdrop to the breathtaking views.
This
is the totally tranquil setting of "La Molina del Olivar!"
The panoramic views over the surrounding countryside are absolutely
spectacular, particularly in the morning and evening when the light
on the hills and mountains produces an ever-changing tapestry of
colours.
This
is a wonderful area for those who enjoy walking through glorious
countryside, bird watching and painting etc., or if you like the
idea of exploring on horseback, trekking is now available locally.
There are tracks and goat paths all around and several National
Parks
within
easy
reach.
The spring flowers are world renowned, and spring and autumn also
sees the arrival of migrating birds on their way to and from
Africa,
including many eagles and birds of prey. If you need a quiet break
in a peaceful, relaxed atmosphere yet with easy access to modern
facilities and the sea, "La Molina del Olivar" provides
the answer. A very special place for the discerning visitor.
